Worthing golfers mark new ladies captaincy with 'Drive In' in support of Guild Care Worthing Golf Club marked the start of its new captaincy year with a lively ‘Drive In’ on Sunday 22nd March that brought club members and a much-loved local charity together for a colourful day on the course. The event introduced Donna Prangnell as the new ladies’ captain, who selected Guild Care as her charity of the year. Donna made a memorable entrance by riding to the first tee on the back of a motorbike while wearing full leathers, a Guild Care T shirt, and a bright pink wig. This set the tone for the day as she prepared to take on a year of fundraising for local people supported by the trusted, social care charity. Members enjoyed a morning of golf before gathering for the formal Drive In, which saw both the ladies’ and the men’s captains take their first shots to mark the start of their captaincy. Donna hit her first drive still dressed in leathers and helmet, which was greeted with applause and amusement from onlookers. The golfers then gathered indoors for the traditional jacket presentation. The new men’s captain received his jacket and tie and both captains thanked members for their support. Daryl Wollers of Guild Care said, “Donna brings such energy and enthusiasm, and we wish her every success in her new role. On behalf of Guild Care, I’d like to thank her for choosing us as her charity of the year. Support like this is so important because it helps us reach more older people who are lonely or isolated, people living with dementia, and children and adults with learning disabilities here in Worthing. The money raised in the coming year will help us continue to make a real difference to people’s lives every day.” A raffle added to the atmosphere but the focus of the day centred on announcing the captains and launching their chosen causes. Last year the club raised £20,400 for Chestnut Tree House and this year’s funds will be presented to the charities at next year’s Drive In. CRY had been chosen by the men’s section for 2026. Guild Care looks forward to a year of partnership with Donna Prangnell and the Worthing Golf Club community.
