Men’s Meet Up group settles into new weekly home at Holland House A social group for men over 65 in Worthing has moved its Friday morning sessions to Guild Care’s venue at Holland House in Little High Street, Worthing. As a result of the move, the Men’s Meet Up group is inviting new members to join them in their new setting. The group meets every Friday from 10.00am to 11.30am at Holland House, where there’s an informal space for chatting, listening, and joining in activities from board games to table football. Coffee and tea are available for £1, and transport can be arranged through the Creating Connections team for people who needed assistance getting there. Sessions will be led by Ian, a volunteer who brings a friendly and welcoming presence to the group. Activities are kept flexible so they can be determined by what people would like to do on the day. Options range from easy conversation to cards or chess, with the added chance to join the table tennis session running at the same time if any members feel like being more active. The Men’s Meet Up Group began as a way of bringing together men aged over 65 who might be missing regular company, especially after retirement or changes in their daily lives. Rather than a structured programme, the sessions focus on enjoying good company and simply getting together to meet new local people in a way that’s straightforward and relaxed. Megan Cohen, of Guild Care’s Creating Connections community services, said, “We’d love to welcome some new members to our Men’s Meet Up group, as we know that social isolation and loneliness can have a real impact on people’s health. “Get in touch and come along to this free group on a Friday and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. It’s a place to sit and chat over a coffee or play a round of cards – and everyone’s welcome to join in with table football which can get quite lively. There’s no pressure here, just take things at your own pace. It is about getting out the house for a couple of hours and connecting with others, maybe even making a few new friends.” The group is free to attend and new members were welcome at any time. Anyone interested in finding out more, arranging transport, or referring someone who might enjoy the group, is encouraged to get in touch with the Creating Connections team.
