As an IAG Volunteer, you will be part of a team which provides free, confidential and compassionate advice, including help with benefits, to older people in the Worthing community.

You will support clients by helping to triage enquiries, offering accurate information and signposting to relevant services and resources. Our volunteer(s) will need to feel comfortable using basic digital and software systems.

You will also assist the team with administrative tasks such as booking appointments and maintaining databases. To support colleagues in head office, you will provide lunchtime Reception cover (30 minutes) welcoming visitors and taking phone messages.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys listening, problem-solving, and making a meaningful difference. Curious enquirers welcome!

Main Tasks:

  • Answer phone calls to the IAG team
  • Speak with clients by phone and in person to understand the issues they need support with
  • Use active listening skills to assess situations and identify next steps (e.g. book an appointment with the IAG team)
  • Provide basic information about local services, community groups etc.
  • Make pre-appointment calls to clients (e.g. confirming time, location)
  • Support general administration (e.g. updating databases, photocopying, filing)
  • Provide Reception cover at lunchtime (30 minutes) to greet visitors and take phone messages
  • Always maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Requirements

  • Provide two character references
  • Undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check (funded by Guild Care)
  • Attend an on-site induction
  • Availability on Mondays and/or Fridays
