Recovering after a period of illness, or returning home after a hospital stay, can bring new challenges. For one Worthing resident, finding the right balance between independence and support proved key to continuing life in familiar surroundings.

Following her discharge from hospital, Margaret and her daughters began to look at ways to make day-to-day living a little easier and assist recovery. Discovering the range of services available for older people through Guild Care’s Home Care team helped them realise that tailored, practical support could restore confidence and provide good company.

“I’ve always been independent,” Margaret explained, “but after I came out of hospital, my daughters said, ‘Mum, you could do with some help.’ I wasn’t seeing as well as I used to, and I was beginning to feel my age.”

Already familiar with Guild Care through her previous work with the charity, Margaret had complete confidence in its long-standing reputation for compassionate, high-quality care. Contacting the Home Care team felt like a natural next step.

Guild Care’s Home Care service supports people with everyday tasks, helping them to stay safe, comfortable and independent at home. Their experienced Home Care Assistants can help with domestic chores, shopping, personal care, medication prompts and companionship, with each person’s support shaped around their individual needs.

Margaret received a weekly visit and valued both the practical help and friendly presence.

“Vicki comes once a week for an hour and I can’t speak too highly of her. She’s always so cheerful and chatty - and she’s so efficient, there’s never a cobweb in sight! She helps with the floors, kitchen, bathroom, and the hoovering and dusting. One morning a drawer front had come off and she helped me with it. It’s little things like that that make a real difference.”

Although she remains able to manage many aspects of daily life, Margaret appreciates the reassurance of knowing further support is available if her circumstances change. “I can still do things like washing up myself and don’t need personal care, but that’s partly why I came to Guild Care, knowing they do so much more if I ever need it in the future.”

She wholeheartedly recommends the service to others. “Go ahead! I’d have no hesitation whatsoever.”
