Experienced leader joins Haviland House Dementia Day Service Guild Care’s Haviland House Dementia Day Service in Goring has welcomed a new team leader, Kara Farley. Kara joins from her role at Guild Care’s adjacent residential home, Haviland House, bringing more than 10 years of experience in caring for people living with dementia. Kara takes the reins from Sarah Johnson who is preparing to launch Guild Care’s new dementia day service at Holland House in Worthing, due to open in March. The two have worked closely together and share a values-based approach to dementia care, ensuring continuity as the service continues to grow while maintaining its high standards. Having started her career in care straight from college, Kara joined Guild Care in 2010 at their Linfield House care home before transferring to Haviland House when it opened in 2015, initially as a senior carer and later as a team leader. This experience has given her a broad understanding of dementia care at different points in a person’s life. “At Haviland House I enjoyed working across all the different households, caring for people from the early stages of dementia to the more complex, as well as having time to support relatives.” She adds, “Haviland House Day Service is another side of caring for people living with dementia, which supports people to live at home longer and gives essential respite for loved ones. For some people, it can become a lifeline.” Kara’s approach focuses on spending time with people and understanding what matters most to them, finding shared interests and helping them feel comfortable and valued. She is looking forward to getting to know each person who comes to Haviland House Day Service and their loved ones. The established, experienced team at Haviland House Day Service continue to bring warmth, humour and a positive outlook to the people they support. “There’s always lots of laughter here which is really lovely,” Kara adds. Based in Goring, Haviland House Dementia Day Service is now ready to support more local families who could benefit from respite they offer. Kara and her friendly team are ready to listen, to learn each person’s stories and support them every step of the way.
